چکیده

The purpose is report a case of reticular pattern dystrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in a 56year-old woman with breast cancer. Images were obtained using fundus photography, fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging, and optical coherence tomography (OCT). The patient complained of bilateral metamorphopsia for 2 months. She underwent surgical treatment and chemotherapy for breast cancer 5 years earlier, and was receiving tamoxifen citrate (20 mg/day) for the previous 2 years. On initial examination, she had a visual acuity of 1.2 in both eyes. Ophthalmoscopy revealed bilateral, peculiar yellow-grey deposits in a reticular pattern at the RPE level. FAF imaging showed clearly defined hyperfluorescent lesions corresponding to the reticular pattern deposits, and the OCT demonstrated focal RPE thickening, called bumps. In addition, the inner segment/outer segment interface was disrupted. Based on these findings, we diagnosed our patient with reticular pattern dystrophy of the RPE. FAF and OCT were useful for demonstrating the peculiar reticular pattern and in localizing the retinal deposits in a patient with reticular pattern dystrophy of the RPE.

A Case of Reticular Pattern Dystrophy of the Retinal Pigment Epithelium

We present a case of reticular pattern dystrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in a 64-year-old woman. Fundus examination revealed discoloration at the macula in both eyes. Fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging showed clearly defined reticular hyperfluorescent lesions. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) demonstrated focal thickening of the RPE, called bumps, and the inner segment/oute...

Longitudinal Structural Changes in Late-onset Retinal Degeneration.

PURPOSE To characterize longitudinal structural changes in early stages of late-onset retinal degeneration to investigate pathogenic mechanisms. METHODS Two affected siblings, both with a S163R missense mutation in the causative gene C1QTNF5, were followed for 8+ years. Color fundus photos, fundus autofluorescence images, near-infrared reflectance fundus images, and spectral domain optical co...

Posterior Polar Central Choroidal Dystrophy: A Case Report

A 52-year-old male presented with a 25-year history of decreasing vision. Best corrected visual acuity was 0.3 in his right and 0.2 in his left eye. Fundoscopic examination showed bilateral symmetric atrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium and choriocapillaris in the posterior polar areas between vascular arcades and surrounding the optic disc. On fluorescein angiography, the large choroidal ...

Drusen Imaging: A Review

Drusen represent the hallmark of non-exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Drusen vary in their location within the retina, ranging from sub-retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) drusen and sub-neurosensory retinal drusenoid deposits above the RPE (or pseudo-drusen). In this paper, we review the rapidly advancing imaging techniques currently available to better correlate drusen volume to...

An update on the ocular phenotype in patients with pseudoxanthoma elasticum

Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) is an inherited multi-system disorder characterized by ectopic mineralization and fragmentation of elastic fibers in the skin, the elastic laminae of blood vessels and Bruch's membrane in the eye. Biallelic mutations in the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter gene ABCC6 on chromosome 16 are responsible for the disease. The pathophysiology is incompletely unders...
